The Whitsunday Islands & the Great Barrier Reef
Positioned close to the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Island, the Coral Sea is guaranteed to be the first place you go on arrival.

Airlie Beach is the exit and entry point for the Whitsundays' 74 dreamy islands. With almost all uninhabited these picturesque islands, scattered amongst the Great Barrier Reef, offer extraordinary getaways with each delivering its own unique experience.

Whitehaven Beach

Whitehaven Beach

Head to Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island to experience one of the most beautiful stretches of sand in the world. Sparkling white, Whitehaven's 4 glorious miles of soft sand is composed of 98% pure white silica giving it a gleaming finish which looks spectacular against the glass-blue Coral Sea.

The best thing to do? Enjoy a gourmet lunch on the sand then hike to the top of Hill Inlet to drink in the cracking views across this majestic island setting.

Though Whitehaven is jaw-droppingly beautiful, there are 74 other isles to see. How to get around? Here and on Airlie, kayaks, jet skis, catamarans, helicopters and sea planes are the transport of choice.

You can charter your own catamaran and sail around the islands at your leisure. For an evening experience, spend a night sleeping over the Great Barrier Reef on your own luxurious yacht. For sole travel, whizz around the isles on a jet-ski or at a more leisurely pace in a kayak or on a paddle board.

Of course, the see-through waters of the Great Barrier Reef make spotting so much of its awesome marine wildlife truly special .

Hamilton Island

And that's just 5 of the 74!

These waters are of course, teeming with tropical fish and marine wildlife in every colour, shape and size. That means both on the Whitsunday Islands and Airlie Beach, snorkelling and swimming are must-do activities with monumental dive sites, (mostly congregated around Hook Island and Hayman Island) such as The Pinnacles and The Woodpile, unmissable destinations.
